The Best Styles For Your Face Shape

Diamond
For a diamond shape, you'll find that your face is widest at the cheekbones and equally narrow at the forehead and jaw line. A cross between a heart and an overstated oval, a diamond face shape is actually very balanced and dramatic. You should consider trying a wide variety of styles as much as, much like an oval, almost everything works with your face.

Oval
If your length of your face is equal to about one and a half times the width, you have an oval face. Typically its only slightly narrower at the jaw line than at the temples and features a gently rounded hairline. Ovals are considered the most versatile shape with an almost unlimited choice of hairstyles. You can wear short, medium, or long lengths with straight, curly, or wavy finishes. Pretty much anything goes!

Round
If your face is about as wide as it is long, and you have a round chin and hairline with the wider part being at the cheeks, it is considered round. Your goal with your hairstyle is to create less volume around your face and minimize the appearance of roundness. Round face shapes should consider cuts that fall just below the chin or longer. Try styles with fullness and height at the crown. Longer lengths and tapered ends also de-emphasize the roundness. Soft, graduated layers are a good idea as they tend to remove bulk and weight from the sides and make your face appear slimmer. Keep your ears covered and add wispy bits to cover the cheekbones. Bangs can be flattering too, but stay away from bluntness. It's best to keep them long, wispy, and/or side swept.

Heart
If your face measurement show that it's narrow at the jaw line and wider either at your cheekbones and/or your forehead, you likely have a heart-shaped face. You are best suited for chin-length or longer styles with a flip, fullness, or flare at the bottom. You can wear shorter styles, but you want to leave weight in the nape area. This will achieve more balance between your wider cheekbones and narrow chin. For shorter looks consider bangs, layers, and/or off-center part to help conceal the width at the forehead.

Oblong
If your face is longer than it is wider, it's considered oblong. The perfect haircut for longer faces is one that doesn't elongate it further yet adds width on the sides. Curls, waves, layers, bi-level cuts, and bobs are ideal as they can create illusion of the width. Stay away from overly long hair as it can drag down the face and make it appear even longer. If you must have, length long layers work best with pieces hitting at the nose and below. If you have a long or high forehead also consider bangs.

Triangle or Pear
A triangle or pear face is the reverse of the heart shape and features a dominate jaw line with narrowing at the cheekbones and temples. To balance this wide jaw line you need lots of layers to achieve fullness through the upper part of your face. By wearing styles that are full at the temples and tapered at the jaw line, you achieve a balance that can accent your features.

Square
A square face shape is defined by a strong, square jaw line usually an equally square hairline. Although some length can help elongate the face, short-to-medium lengths typically look best, especially with soft wave or roundness around the face. Often the hard lines of a square face with soft wispy bangs, fringeness around your face, off-center parts, and height at the crown. Avoid straight across bangs, center parts, or straight or blunt styles that accentuate the square jawbone.
